What is BrightSite?
BrightSite is a free* customizable homepage, where you can view news, stocks, horoscopes, and local events all one page. Otherwise known as a Web Portal, it's your starting point on the Web. Information from your most frequented sources can all be accessed from one central location. News from other Web sites can all be gathered together (via those sites' RSS feeds) to make Web browsing a breeze. BrightSite has lots of other modules to choose from as well, including an address book, Web bookmark holder, driving directions, word of the day, this day in history, lottery results, personal calendar, a shoutbox, and much more.*BrightSite is free to bright.net Internet Access subscribers

How do I use (customize) BrightSite?
Once you've logged into BrightSite (Login page is here), you'll have a default "view". To customize the view, click on "Customize" on the top right. You will see a number of dropdown menus that represent a spot on your page. Pick the ones you want (these are called modules), and at the bottom you can opt to turn on the cartoon.

To change the colors, simply click on the dropdown at the top of the customize page.

When you are finished making changes to your page simply click the 'Finished Customizing' button at the bottom of the page or 'Home' at the top of the page. All changes are saved as you make them on this page.

Just Added 5/12/08:
While on the customize page you can click 'Browse Modules' for any boxes that are in the 'Off' position. The modules are in alphabetical order and are categorized for your convenience.

What is a 'Module?
A module is simply what we call each of the items you can choose from to populate your BrightSite and give you the content you want. Examples are 'Racing News,' 'Personal Calendar,' 'Address Book,' and 'Word of the Day.' My BrightSite is loading slowly. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?
The short answer is yes - you can turn off certain modules (such as Stocks) and the page should load faster.

Now for an explanation! BrightSite pulls content from different areas of the World Wide Web. Depending on how fast or slow those other sites are, it may affect the load time of your customized BrightSite page. To help speed things up, we cache some the feeds so that they don't have to load every time your page is refreshed. However, some of the feeds change so often or are too varied to be able to cache them.

Do I need to log out when I leave BrightSite?
No, you do not. If you didn't choose "Remember my password" when you logged in, a cookie is saved, remembering your login info so you are automatically logged in for future visits. If you don't choose this route, every time you quit your browser, you are "logging out" anyway. So really, the only reasons you might want to log out are to log in as a different user or to prevent other people that use the same computer from using your BrightSite page.

Do I have unlimited mail storage space?
No, all mailboxes are setup with a limited mailbox capacity. To increase the size of your mailbox, contact your local office.

Do messages in other folders account for my storage space?
Yes, messages that are stored in any folder in Webmail will count as part of your storage capacity, including messages in the trash folder.

I had messages stored in my trash, but now they are gone. What happened?
Messages in the trash are only kept for five days, then are automatically discarded.

I received a message that my mailbox was at risk of going over quota, but I have no messages in my inbox. What is the problem?
If you use a mail client such as Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird, in most cases, once the messages are downloaded to the client, it automatically removes them from the server. It is entirely possible the account was at risk of going over quota until the messages were downloaded in Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, or another computer based e-mail client.

If you exclusively use Webmail, messages that are stored in any folder will count as part of your storage capacity, including messages in the trash folder. If you are close to your limit, you may want to begin to clean out your Webmail or contact your local office to increase the size of your mailbox.

Over quota messages can also occur if you have been sent a message containing a large attachment that is still present on the server.
