Phishing Emails Cause Increase of Bounced Messages
With the number of phishing and scam email on the rise, we have noticed an increase of spam being sent from our customer's accounts. When you reply back to an email asking for your account information (User id:, Password:, Date of Birth:, Country:), it is giving the spammer full-access to your, now compromised, account.
Once the spammer has the information, they then log-in to a web-based email program and start sending out large amounts of unwanted messages. When a message is sent to an address that is no longer valid, it is bounced back to the the mailbox of the compromised account. This can result in hundreds to thousands of returned messages and a full mailbox.
The only way that we have found to correct this situation is to have the password for the account changed. (This can be done by contacting your local Customer Service Office). Once the change is made, it can take 2-3 weeks before all of the bounced messages stop.
To prevent this from happening, please delete phishing or scam emails without replying. Please keep in mind, that we will never ask for your password via email. If you receive an email and are not sure if it is valid, it is best to contact the sender before replying.
