Christ Died For Our Sins
Reaching forth...

By God's grace, still presenting the same message from the same Book...

The interpretation of a matter belongs to God. This is fearful ground, and I wonder at my even giving an answer.

Job, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are sometimes referred to as wisdom books. There is great treasure there. While considering wisdom, consider Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom.

1 Cor 1:29-31
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

God hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. What is this "world" that God has placed in our hearts?

Ecclesiastes 3:11
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

The providence of God is at work. Only God sees and knows the beginning from the end of a matter.

Isa 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

There is a short rhyme by Grant Colfax Tullar, called The Weaver:

The Weaver

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me,
I cannot choose the colors
He worketh steadily.

Ofttimes He weaveth sorrow,
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I, the underside.

Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

-Grant Colfax Tullar

Now for the question. What is this "world" that God has placed in our hearts? I offer the following:

By the world, I think the whole of the Universe is meant, not simply the vain world of pleasure (Hebrews 11:25), but all the workings of the creation of God. But the work is so great, so vast, and our capacity is so limited, that the desire to comprehend, to know is not achieved by us. Consider 1 Cor 8:2. Yet this does not mean we are to glory in ignorance, and think to know nothing, as if that is all God has for us.

1 Cor 8:2
2 And if any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

Another Scripture, 1 Corinthians 2:14 is often thought to apply only to the lost, but what is in us, that is in our flesh, for we that are saved, partaking eternal life, are also said to be carnal, sold under sin (Rom 7:14). Another verse to consider is Isaiah 64:4. Other verses that are fearful tell of our natural lack of hearing (Isa 6:9-10), so it is made clear, salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9).

1 Corinthians 2:14
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Isaiah 64:4
4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.

Romans 7:14
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

But we are not left to ourselves. And we are told, Marvel not, ye must be born again (John 1:13; 3:7).

Isa 26:12
12 LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.

2 Peter 1:4
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1 Corinthians 2:10
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

1 Corinthians 1:29-31
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

There are fearful things to consider.

Consider the Scripture, and see God at work in what is ordained. Did God want these to give to the beast? With that, were these serving the Lord, or the beast? Who did they yield themselves to? Did these sow to the beast, or to the Lord? What did God put in their hearts?

Revelation 17:13, 17
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

Why does a person do the things they do? What do works say of where they are going?

Prov 16:33
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

Isa 44:6-7
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

Salvation saves a person from sin. Salvation is of the Lord. The heart is in the Lord's hand. Repentance of dead works with faith toward God is of the Lord.

You might ask questions about Romans 7, 1 John 3; 1 John 5 et cetera, and the fear of the Lord, Proverbs 1:7 etc.

Isa 26:12
12 LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.

How far should one go with these things? This far:

Genesis 1:1-Revelation 22:21

The new birth does not remove anything from the sinner, and does not change anything in the sinner, but instead imparts the new nature, the divine nature, that they will give heed to the testimony of Scripture. Before they are born again, any of the race of Adam, they are the enemy of God, without strength, hating the things of God, and without understanding, as all men of themselves are (1 Cor 2:14; Isa 64:4; Rom 7:14).

But our desire to know is limited, and we might falter doubting the sureness of God's love to us, or falter because we don't understand why things happen as they do. Our salvation is sure, and a home is ours in the heavens (1 Pet 1:3-5), but we see the end of the matter by faith and not sight, and so hope to the end (Heb 3:14). Our Lord is to be feared, yet tender mercies are bestowed on us. Like David, we might hold the promise, and think to remind God of what He has said:

Ps 119:49
49 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

Come and hear, all ye that fear God,
and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Psalms 66:16
