Do You Know What The Bible Says About Salvation?

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph 2.8-9).

The concept of salvation means different things to different people. Not all that people think is correct. A person may think themselves saved because they think God would not condemn them. A person may think they are trying to live right and that they live as good as the next and better than most, and that they think would be their salvation. Some think they feel saved and have come to an understanding of things and that they think will commend them to God and that will be salvation for them. Others may not feel saved and that they think is the end of hope of salvation for them. But what does the Bible say about salvation? (John 5.39,40 Acts 17.11,12)

Being rightly understood salvation shows the comfort Jesus Christ is to the Christian (1Pe 2.6-7). Every one of us has sin that is rebellion against God manifest in our lives (Ro 3.23 5.12). This sin separates us from God and if the sin is not dealt with, finally we will be separated for all eternity from God (Isa 59.2 1Co 15.56).

The Bible teaches us that our own efforts at self reformation, or our turning over a new leaf, are not sufficient to restore us to a right relationship with God (Ac 13.39 Gal 3.11 5.4). Our efforts at works, or keeping the law, actually increases our sin debt (Ro 7.6-8 Col 3.5). If salvation could be earned by our efforts at keeping the law, that is by works, then Christ has died in vain (Gal 2.21 3.11 Tit 3.9).

The truth of salvation is understood by a right understanding of the Bible on this subject. Not all things in the Bible are easily understood (2Pe 3.16), and not all things in the Bible might be understood by us. The Bible teaches us about salvation. That can be understood by us. The Bible tells us so (John 3.15,18,36 1John 3.5,19 5.10-13,20). The truth shall make you free of the debt of sin and the separation from God and the works of the law (John 8.32,36).

There is but one way of salvation and if that way is missed, then the terrible consequence is that heaven will be missed. Salvation means we are set free of sin and death and hell.

Apart from the salvation of God through Christ Jesus, our sins earn us everlasting separation from God, and when our body dies we will be separated to an eternal existence in hell. Our seeing sin for what it is and realizing the result of our sins might bring us to self reformation. But all our efforts will not purchase for us salvation. Efforts to justify ourselves by our own actions or thoughts is not the way of salvation. What is written in the Bible tells us the way of salvation. That does not change.

The Bible reveals that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (1Ti 1.15). Jesus died on the cross for our sins, paying the sin debt for each of us in a personal saving way. He was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead for our justification (Ro 4.25 1Co 15.1-4).

We have no need to try and justify ourselves. There is no excuse we need make to comfort ourselves or to convince others about ourselves. The more we busy ourselves trying to find our own way, the longer it is till we look to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our salvation. He it is that is the way, the truth, and the life. One way, and that is Christ. One truth, and that is told in the Bible. One life, and that is in Christ. Jesus Christ has purchased our salvation.

We need not justify ourselves by deeds of the law. Our works are not needed and are not able to save. The law has been done away with by Jesus Christ (Col 2.14). By the law we discovered our sin and realized the awful consequence. By the law we often might try to justify ourselves. Others, knowing the law has been taken out of the way forget God and yet miss the great salvation we have in Christ (Heb 2.3 10.29 Jude 1.4).

Salvation should be thought of as being by grace through faith. Faith comes from hearing the truth (John 20.31 Ro 10.17). The truth is communicated to us by the Scriptures. Salvation is shown us by grace through faith. Grace and not the works of the law bring us salvation (Gal 2.16). The law principle is to work and earn. Grace is to hear and believe.

Our salvation is a free gift to us by grace. Being free to us, there was a price paid that is above our understanding of love and of value. The very Son of God died for our sins personally by grace to purchase for us salvation. By grace we hear, believe and receive. By the law we have no hope.

By grace our life shows efforts of self reform, but those efforts prompted by grace are from our gratitude or thankfulness to our God through Jesus Christ (Gal 5.6 Jas 2.17,20,26). Our efforts at self reform by the law will never bring us salvation. Keep grace and the law separate. If it is by grace it is not by the law. Grace and the law are not the same.

By the outward appearance grace working in us to live for Him that died for us may appear the same as the efforts of one that thinks to justify themselves by their works. But the end of trusting our works of the law is not the way of salvation.

One may not always feel saved, or may seldom feel saved. As well, the forgiveness of our sins by the death of Christ may not erase the memory of or feeling of personal failure brought about by our sins. We may be very aware of our own failures, and troubled by what we see in ourselves or think others may see in us. But the sure truth of the way of salvation is settled. The way of salvation will not change and the sin debt is paid. Jesus Christ paid our sin debt and we are complete in Him (Col 2.10). The Bible tells us so. He is our salvation.

Will you examine yourself and see if you are viewing salvation as the Bible teaches? There is only one way of salvation and it does make a difference what you believe. Are you right now finding you believe and trust Jesus Christ? Only trust Him.

Things that are different may be wrestled and wrested in our minds till we think we have justified ourselves. But these efforts of works are not the way of salvation. It is Jesus Christ that justified us.

Salvation is ours in Christ Jesus. He is the friend of sinners and He is our sure salvation. Jesus receives sinners. He will not refuse you. The Bible is the true record of God's search for us (Eze 34.16 Lu 19.10). Believe the record. Jesus says, And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die (John 12.32,33).

Look to the cross and live. Jesus lives now and receives all that come unto Him. (Isa 55.1-3 Mt 11.28-30 John 3.14-17 6.37 Heb 2.9 1Pe 2.24 3.18 1John 5.10 Re 5.9 22.17)

Call Jehovah Thy Salvation
[ Top of Page ]

Call Jehovah thy salvation, rest beneath th' Almighty's shade.
In His secret habitation dwell, and never be dismayed.
There no tumult shall alarm thee, thou shalt dread no hidden snare.
Guile nor violence can harm thee, in eternal safeguard there.

From the sword at noonday wasting, from the noisome pestilence,
In the depth of midnight blasting, God shall be thy sure defense.
He shall charge His angel legions watch and ward over thee to keep.
Though thou walk through hostile regions, though in desert wilds thou sleep.

Since, with pure and firm affection, thou on God hast set thy love,
With the wings of His protection, He will shield thee from above.
Thou shalt call on Him in trouble, He will hearken, He will save.
Here for grief reward thee double, crown with life beyond the grave.
