We see in the Scriptures, as regards Jesus Christ, “He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.. .that in all things He might have the Preeminence” (Col.1:17-19).

Jesus says, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Matt.28:18-20).

What makes one thing right, and another wrong? Because God commands it to be so. He is the one “who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will” (Eph.1:11).

It is written, “I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isa.46:9-10).

To quote A. W. Pink: “That God reigns supreme in Heaven, is generally conceded; that He does so over this world, is almost universally denied. Not only is it denied that God created everything, by personal and direct action, but few believe that He has any immediate concern in regulating the works of His own hands. Everything is supposed to be ordered according to the (impersonal and abstract) “laws of Nature”. The Creator is banished from His own creation. Therefore we need not be surprised that men, in their degrading conceptions, exclude Him from the realm of human affairs.”

The anti-Christ world view rejects the Bible. Man is considered to be rational, benevolent, and innately good, as apposed to the Scriptural view that man is sinful and depraved. To explain why man does evil, they turn from theology to psychology. In their philosophizing and theorising, men are relegating God to the background. But there is no changing the counsel of God. God reigns and He will bring every work into judgement.

C. H. Spurgeon says, “There is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty. There is no doctrine more hated by worldlings. Men allow God anywhere except on His throne. When God ascends His throne, His creatures gnash their teeth; and when we proclaim an enthroned God, and His right to do as He wills with His own, to dispose of His creatures as He thinks well, without consulting him in the matter, they hiss, and turn a deaf ear, for God on the throne is not the God they love.”

“God does as He pleases, always as He pleases, and only as He pleases. God is in control of all things and people, and is directing all things after His own will and to the praise of His own glory”, says C.D. Cole.

“To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One” (Isa.40:25).

With Spurgeon let me say, that so far from this doctrine of Divine Sovereignty making you to sit down in sloth, I hope in God it will have a tendency to humble you, and so to lead you to say, “I am unworthy of the least of all thy mercies. I feel Thou has a right to do with me as Thou will. If Thou crush me, a helpless worm, Thou will not be dishonored; and I have no right to ask Thee to have compassion upon me, save this, that I want Thy mercy.” Though Jehovah is a Sovereign, He will save. He that believeth in Christ alone for salvation, shall be saved, but he who rejects Christ and believeth not in Him, shall be damned. That is the Sovereign decree and proclamation of heaven -bow to it, acknowledge it, obey it, and God bless you.
