Two Timothy Two Fifteen

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
KJB

A decision for the truth is called for. It is not said that everyone is to give their opinion. Let Scripture interpret Scripture.

John 6:63
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
KJB

1 Cor 2:14
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
KJB

We are to be on guard. Even Peter was caught in spiritual deception shortly after he was receiving the things of God, in one instance, but with another he was rebuked for following Satan.

Matt 16:17
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
KJB

Mark 8:32-33
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
KJB

It is written, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

There is danger in opening yourself up to corrupt communication:

1 Cor 15:33
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
KJB

1 Cor 5:6
6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
KJB

2 Tim 2:16
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
KJB

These warnings are given regarding the company we keep.

Prov 13:20
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
KJB

2 Thess 3:6
6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
KJB

Eph 4:14
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
KJB

Dumpster diving, that is, surfing from one bulletin board to another to find the latest new twist on Scripture is a popular sport. But what say the Scriptures? The contradictory interpretations cannot all be true, neither can the contradictory translations all be correct.

Prov 21:6
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
KJB

Reject contradictory interpretations of the many going about ever tossed to and fro with winds of doctrine. Brethren, stay in the word, keep the faith and continue in prayer.

Matthew 13:21
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
KJB

Heb 10:32-33
32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.
KJB

Tossed about with every wind of doctrine. Even as many are tossed to and fro from one MV to another, so are some tossed to and fro from one doctrine to another.

Eph 4:14
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
KJB

God has provided means, has placed some in the churches for us.

Eph 4:11-14
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
KJB

Some refuse to submit, as pride will not allow them.

Jude 18-19
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
KJB

2 Tim 3:1-8
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
KJB

You shall know the doctrine.

Matt 7:17-20
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
KJB

John 7:17-18
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
KJB

John 8:32
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
KJB

2 Cor 13:5
5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
KJB

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed.

The minister is to be a helper of our joy, and not our lord. As it is written, And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

2 Cor 1:24
24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
KJB

Prove all things. By the fleshly mind, the feeling of your heart? No. Search the Scriptures daily. Men err, not knowing the Scriptures.

Acts 17:11
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
KJB

The Old Book And The Old Faith
Words & Music: George H. Carr

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24:35

'Mid the storms of doubt and unbelief we fear,
Stands a Book eternal that the saints hold dear;
Through the restless ages it remains the same-
'Tis the Book of God, and the Bible is its name!

The old Book and the old faith
Are the Rock on which I stand!
The old Book and the old faith
Are the bulwark of the land!
Through storm and stress they stand the test
In every clime and nation blessed;
The old Book and the old faith
Are the hope of every land!

'Tis the Book that tells us of the Father's love,
When He sent His Son to us from heav'n above,
Who by richest promise creates hope within,
For 'tis through His blood we are saved from every sin!

The old Book and the old faith
Are the Rock on which I stand!
The old Book and the old faith
Are the bulwark of the land!
Through storm and stress they stand the test
In every clime and nation blessed;
The old Book and the old faith
Are the hope of every land!

'Tis the Book that tells us of the will of God
And the Savior's teachings while the earth He trod-
How He soothed earth's sorrows and relieved its woe,
Through Whom strength is given to conquer every foe!

The old Book and the old faith
Are the Rock on which I stand!
The old Book and the old faith
Are the bulwark of the land!
Through storm and stress they stand the test
In every clime and nation blessed;
The old Book and the old faith
Are the hope of every land!

'Tis the Book that tells us of eternal life,
After faithful service in a world of strife;
And this glorious triumph over deaths dark fears
Is the worlds best gift in an age of countless tears!

The old Book and the old faith
Are the Rock on which I stand!
The old Book and the old faith
Are the bulwark of the land!
Through storm and stress they stand the test
In every clime and nation blessed;
The old Book and the old faith
Are the hope of every land!

O the grand old Book and the dear old faith
Are the Rock on which I stand!
O the grand old Book and the dear old faith
Are the hope of every land!

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Come and hear, all ye that fear God,
and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Psalms 66:16
