6:00 p.m. SummerFest Sunday
(Second Weekend in August)
On the River in Memorial Park
St. Marys, Ohio
It's too slow!
(They say.)
Got a suggestion? email us your idea!
Here are some we've already heard a few hundred times...
and our reasons for simply smiling politely and ignoring them.
- Get a Fire Department pumper truck to put a hose in the river. 1. 3.
- Dam the river with sandbags and release the water at racetime. 3. 7.
- Anchor running jetskis in the river. 1. 2. 5.
- Boost the ducks at key points with:
- Water Sprays. 5.
- Cherry Bombs/M80s. 8.
- Compressed Air. 5.
- Underwater baffles to direct the current upward. 5.
- Fans. 8.
- Line the approach to the Finish Line with a smooth chute. 4.
- Spray ducks with anti-static aerosol to keep them separated. 4.
- Put up a wind screen to keep breeze from blowing ducks upstream. 8.
- Get heavier ducks that will draw more current and catch less wind. 6.
- Release water into the St. Marys River from the Miami and Erie Canal Feeder upstream. 3.
- The race is over 100 yards long and water is notoriously hard to push - especially water that is 2 to 7 feet deep, 40 feet wide and flowing over a very uneven riverbottom.
- Poor access - river is quite rocky and banks are riprapped.
- Excess administrative red tape.
- Tried. Failed.
- Too much equipment/maintenance/setup, i.e. we don't want to.
- Under serious consideration.
- Oh my aching back!
- Right.
