FOR YOUR BOOK SHELF
"The Legacy Continues -- Vol. 1" features the life stories of three delightful women in our Congregational history: Anna Marie Schultis (Mary Joachim), Mary Rosetta Weber, and Mary Luca Junk. Each of these stories provides a glimpse into early life, vocation discernment, and ministry as a Sister of the Precious Blood. Entering into her life experience, you come to know a bit more about our Community and the life we share as Sisters of the Precious Blood
"The Legacy Continues -- Vol. 2" sketches several threads of the developing community. Part 1 "Where Two or Three Are Gathered" tells the story of Sisters Margaret Gast, Joachim Thalheimer and Arnolda (Helena) Nietfield --each of whom served God in a very special way. For a total of 100 years their combined skills managed to clothe all the sisters. The sewing room where they labored was blessed by the prayers and the patience of these three holy women. Part 2 "Crimsoned Sands" details the courageous task of establishing schools and mission in the Territory of Arizona in spite of the sweltering climate and the dire poverty of the area. Beginning in 1903 under the leadership of Mother Mary Emma Nunlist the lives and labors of the early pioneers-- Sisters Esperanza Poll, Celesta Grimmelsman and Electa Fleck began the efforts that eventually included almost 300 sisters. Part 3 "I Come to Do Your Will" describes the variety of life experiences in which Sister Mary Ludgeria Bellinghausen succeeded because of her readiness to follow God's will wherever it might lead.
"The Legacy Continues -- Vol.3" highlights stories of 100 years of the early educational history of the Sisters of the Precious Blood in America. The development of this ministry is recounted through stories of the lives of sisters who played key roles in each period. Part 1 introduces four pioneer women who shared unique personal gifts with an immigrant population. Part 2 tells the stories of five educational leaders who contribute to the Community's growth in professionalism. Part 3 contains stories of eight sisters who are representative of the many who excelled in the field of education. Through the use of the gifts and talents of each sister, the Congregation grew from its tiny beginning in 1844 to a Community ready and open to accept the challenges of the third millennium.
The Legacy Continues -- Vol. 4 the final volume of the series opens with the chapter "Uniquely Gifted" the stories of four sisters: Mary Grace Pratt, Friedburga (Maria) Jaeger, Mary Claire Trimbach and Amabalis Neumeister --each of whom is well-known; perhaps legendary, in the history of the Congregation. Following these stories, "Healing Hands" presents tales of sisters who spent their religious lives generously serving others in the health care ministry. Through the accounts of these sisters who are representative of many others, a brief sketch of the Congregation's involvement in health care emerges. The last section of this volume, "Lives of Humble Service," focuses on the many sisters who were involved in work commonly referred to as General or Domestic Arts. Their lives, perhaps, most closely resemble that of Mother Brunner and the earliest sisters. These sisters performed the essential tasks of cleaning, cooking, sewing, washing -- the humble chores often too little valued. Their daily work, made holy through hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, exemplified the Benedictine traditions of prayer and work adopted by the Congregation. In this volume, as in the previous books in this series, the stories of the sisters' lives illustrate the continuing fulfillment of Mother Brunner's vision. Through these written words, may her vision be read and remembered.
