Senator Lauch Faircloth (R-NC)

ACLU Rating -- 33

S.B. 40, the Drug Use Prevention Act, would jail doctors for recommending mj to patients. Sen. Faircloth thinks that 8 years in the slammer and a $60,000 fine is appropriate punishment for a doctor who would so boldly flout the law by even responding to questions about mj to a patient.

There are some legal experts that are claiming the law is unconstitutional, citing US District Judge Fern Smith's ruling in May 96 barring federal officials from penalizing California doctors who recommend marijuana to their patients.

The law is now before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which, unfortunately, is chaired by Sen. Orrin Hatch, another government official on the BadGuys List.

Sen. Faircloth is up for re-election in 1998. Please let him know how you feel about his drug policies.
