July 2006 BSDC Newsletter
Greetings from the
Black
Swamp Driving Club. We hope you are
all enjoying some time with your four legged friends while staying cool and
fly-free. We have great things to report and a lot to look forward
to this driving season.
We kicked of our 2006 season with the Higgins/Emmons Amish
Drive on May 20th. The weather was wonderful and many folks joined
in for a wonderful meal and a beautiful and relaxing drive. Many
stopped at the local shops along the way to browse and visit. It was a perfect
way to begin the new season and get back into traveling mode, so we all could
prepare for the big trip to
Kentucky.
Many Black Swamp Members made the journey to
Kentucky for the Carriage Round up on June 2nd-4th.
Many came on Friday and enjoyed some evening driving before settling in for the
night. More turnouts arrived on Saturday and most drove throughout
the day. However, the highlight of the evening was of course the tailgate
event. Everyone had a lovely time enjoying each other’s company
and the food was great, as usual. It seemed everyone had something to add to
our “You might be a Redneck if…..” theme. After lots of laughs and
great food, the fun continued as we all got prepared for the twilight drive. The
night air was perfect and the park was beautiful as it always is.
As we write this article we are preparing to enjoy our weekend
at Al and Angie
Hohenbrink’s drive on June 17-18th, at the
Henry County Fairgrounds.
The picnic at Joe and Ann Bell’s house will be
July 23rd with no horses just food, carriages and fun. Please bring
your favorite carriage to show as they will host a carriage show and there will
be judging on the various displays. The potluck will begin at
1:00 pm. Directions from
