Rockford is a farming community. The surrounding area is flat land and used for farm crops such as wheat, beans, and corn. The major industries presently in Rockford are Tu-Way Products which manufactures mops, and Fremont Co. (formerly Sharp's) which makes and bottles Rockford Catsup and barbecue sauces. Other major businesses are Rockford Lumber and Supply, Schumm Pharmacy (noted as one of the top outlets for Precious Moments) and nearby Shane Hill Nursing Home which has added an assisted living unit.

Several churches are located in and near Rockford, the First United Methodist Church being the oldest. Others are Grace United Methodist, Rockford Presbyterian, St. Teresa Catholic and Calvary United Brethren. Also, many organizations are active in Rockford with the newest being the Shanes Crossing Historical Society. Others are Rockford Lions Club, Rockford Chamber of Commerce, Shanes Aerie FOE, Rockford American Legion, Shanes Lodge F&AM (Masonic Order) Parkway Booster Club, Parkway Music Boosters, Friends of the Library, and Rockford Recreation.

Rockford is also serves as the Elementary & High School site for Parkway Local Schools
