July 4th Festival News
The July 4th festival committee is hard at work planning the 57th year of a St. Joe tradition. Last festival the Sizzler drawing and the insurance board were introduced and were very successful helping raise the profits for the festival and giving away good prizes. The unique part of the prizes is we did not ask the merchants to donate them rather to sell the prize to us at their cost. In exchange they got advertising with their name on the Sizzler tickets.
This year the committee is working on introducing two new games and a new drawing. The committee is increasing the quality of the fireworks. The time of the fireworks are presenting g will not change however the quality of the display will be better. This is only possible due to the generosity of the merchants and individuals who donate to this display. The donations for the fireworks are not part of the festival funds, those monies, if a surplus, are carried over to the next years fireworks display. We would again like to thank our fireworks sponsors for 2006 Time Warner Cable, Wapak Wal-Mart, The American Legion, G. A. Wintzer and Son Inc, and Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home.
The committee is working with Dave Christensen and Brian Fisher to improve the Church s web site. The committee hopes to make the site more available as a source of information for the July 4th festival, Super Bonanza, and other activities as well as continuing to function as a source of Mass in formation, school information and church history. Tune in next quarterly to see hear about the progress.
The biggest danger the festival faces is the low number of volunteers. There are less people to carry the load each year. Please plan now to help with the festival in 2007. This festival celebrates our freedoms, make the festival one of your choices. Celebrate your freedom and your church.
Last year $95,000.00 was raised for the good of St. Joe. The committee does not have control of how the money is distributed once it is turned over that is the job of the finance committee another group of volunteers.
The volunteer drawing was a success and the committee plans to do it again this year. Each festival booth chair submits the name of their volunteers to the drawing, one chance for each two hours served. The prizes were the large planted flower pots. The pots were purchased by the committee, students from St. Joe school painted the posts under the direction of the Art teacher, Haehn florirst potted the flowers at their cost.
If you would like to donate your time to the festival and have not been contacted in the past to help or if you want to do more please contact Mike Wurst at 419-738-5370 or mbwurst@yahoo.com , Bob Kohlrieser at 419-738-6633, Linda Stelzer at 419-568-1957, or Mike Sullivan at 419-738-7564.
